A historic home is always filled with character! Out of fear on losing the houses’ original style, many homeowners avoid remodeling. Thankfully, with Western Products, you can put these fears to rest. Our skillful designers were able to update the kitchen in this turn-of-the-century home while perfectly balancing the original character with function.
Helping a Historic Kitchen Reach its Full Potential
The craftsman-style kitchen is a picturesque example of the Arts and Crafts movement from the early 20th century. You can see the skill of an artisan in every small detail. Before the remodel, the kitchen was blocked off by a set of servant stairs. By removing the stairs, there is more room for the kitchen to reach its full potential. Where the stairs were formerly located, we added floor-to-ceiling cabinetry and a corner desk nook – great for researching new recipes or making your next grocery list.
The Power of Cabinets
Rich tones in the wood enhance the chosen elements of this kitchen; this truly shows the skills of the craftsman! The French Villa Square cabinets are made of quarter-sawn white oak, a wonderful choice for a craftsman style kitchen! These gorgeous oak cabinets feature a chestnut stain, which highlights their true beauty. Our Design team chose cabinets with inset construction, meaning the doors and drawer fronts are flush with the frame. This style also adds to the authentic craftsman feel. These sturdy cabinets create a bold statement in the kitchen and also add the perfect amount of sophistication.
Classic Counters
The elegance of this kitchen is further exemplified with the Torquay countertops from Cambria®. This countertop offers a classic look with contemporary flare. Although the counter looks to be a natural white carrara marble, it is, in fact, an engineered quartz material. Quartz is much stronger, more dense and more stain resistant than marble. The polished finish is incredibly durable and simple to maintain, with no need to add sealants in the future.
Everything PLUS the Kitchen Sink
When remodeling, it is good to remember that the kitchen sink can really help tie the room together. In the case of this kitchen, a handsome apron front sink makes a nod to the home’s rich history.
