How to Care for Low-Maintenance Siding from Western Products
Our customers frequently ask us how to care for their steel siding from Western Products. We think that’s partly because they have a hard time believing how simple our answer is! Steel siding requires virtually no maintenance!
There’s no need for priming, caulking, painting, staining, sealing, or patching to maintain your home’s exterior appearance. Our low-maintenance siding and accessories will look freshly painted for years to come with very little upkeep. A simple rinse with a garden hose washes away any dirt that has accumulated, leaving a fresh, beautiful exterior.
Homeowners tell us that they greatly value the maintenance freedom that our steel siding offers. Time and money once spent maintaining and repairing siding can be spent enjoying life with friends and family. Our premium coating is guaranteed not to chalk or fade, even in severe environments. In addition, our finish is enhanced with a PTFE coating that improves scratch and abrasion-resistance and is known for its cleanability and stain-resistance.
What if Additional Cleaning is Necessary?
As with any exterior surface, dirt and mildew may collect on siding. Where conditions of soiling do occur, these simple instructions will allow you to care for your steel siding and accessories:
- For surface dirt, we recommend occasionally spraying with a garden hose and rubbing gently with a soft rag, sponge, or soft bristle brush. Do not rub vigorously.
- In moderately dirty atmospheres, use ordinary nonabrasive household detergents. Combine 1/3 cup detergent (like Tide) and 2/3 cup trisodium phosphate (like Soilex or Spic-and-Span) in 1 gallon of water. Rub gently with a soft rag, sponge, or soft bristle brush. Again, do not rub vigorously.
- For mildew accumulation, which can occur on surfaces of all types (normally appearing as black spots), remove by using a basic solution of the following ingredients: 1/3 cup detergent (like Tide), 2/3 cup trisodium phosphate (like Soilex or Spic-and-Span), 1 quart sodium hypochlorite 5% solution (like Clorox), and 3 quarts of water. Rub gently with a soft rag, sponge, or soft bristle brush. Again, do not rub vigorously.
- Caution: Stronger concentrations of cleaners may cause damage to the finish. Immediately after washing with detergent or other cleaners, rinse all surfaces thoroughly with a garden hose. Avoid vigorous rubbing, which may cause an undesirable gloss on the finish. As with all cleaning products, avoid skin and eye contact and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
